Abstract

FERNANDEZ F, Sandra; CARDENAS C, Milagros  and  ELSTER M, Celina. Incidencia de resistencia constitutiva e inducible a clindamicina en Staphylococcus spp. aislados en un centro ambulatorio. INHRR [online]. 2004, vol.35, n.2, pp.10-13. ISSN 0798-0477.

74 clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus and 76 coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), were islolated at the Laboratory of Bacteriology of the Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad, (an ambulatory center of the east of Caracas) to determine the incidence of the constitutive and induced clindamycin resistance. We found that 14,86% of S. aureus show constitutive resistance to clindamycin and 4,05% show induced resistance. 28,95% of CNS was constitutively resistant and it could not be shown any clindamycin inducible resistance. The incidence of induced clindamycin resistance is low in our center, however we consider that the studies of sensitivity to antibiotics in all staphylococci should include the disc diffusion induction test (D-test), in order to guarantee a successful treatment and to evaluate the evolution of this phenomena.

Keywords : Clindamycin; inducible resistance; bacterial resistance; Staphylococus; Staphylococcus aureus; D-test.
