The development of modern drugs and its regulatory control should be analized in the framewok of political, social, economic, technical and scientific changes born during the 17^th Century and growing faster between 18^th and 20^th Centuries. In Venezuela, regulatory control begun in the middle of the 19^th Century, but its formal date of foundation was octubre 1883 when the “Consejo de Médicos” (Council of Physicians) of Caracas was officialy established. We have divided that long Venezuelan drug history in: I. Foundation of Drug Regulation (19th Century) II. Sanitary Bases of 20th Century Drug Regulation (1905- 1935) III. Modern Period (1936-1992) IV. Contemporary Period (1993-2004) Several historicals facts and success are analyzed in this paper and, likewise, we make a short approach to the future.
