Elly Silberpfenning was born in Thorn, West Prussia, on January 19, 1910. She lived her early years in Allenstein, East Prussia. When she was a ten-year old girl met her long-life partner. Her studies in Medicine in Germany, first, and Italy, afterward, were impacted by 2° World War in 1939. She escaped away from Europe to Venezuela and remained almost 6 years en Cariaco, Estado Sucre. They moved to Caracas and from 1952 to 1955, re-validated her degrees as physician and Doctor in Medical Science, as well. Since 1954 when she joined the National Institute of Higiene to 1981, her career was dedicated to Pharmacology and Public Health, and developed a pioneer work in the Official Drug Regulation and, after some difficulties, the National Center of Pharmacovigilance (CENAVIF) was founded by her. Nowaday, that Center is officially registered in the World Health Organization-International Drug Monitoring Programme. In her long and wide scientific and high qualify teaching dedication it is, also, worthy to mention, her artistic activities, specially for her several piano recitals. Dr. Elly Holz is reminded by people as an enlightened Venezuelan, who founded Pharmacovigilance in the country and, besides that, because she developed a generation of Venezuelan specialists in Regulatory Pharmacology (Pharmacology in Public Health).
