RANGEL, Rafael. Conferencia Dictada en la Sociedad Vargas de Estudiantes de Medicina el día 14 de Diciembre de 1905. INHRR [online]. 2006, vol.37, n.1, pp.074-087. ISSN 0798-0477.
In this lecture I refect the distinction between the general practitioner and the laboratory man, the physician and the researcher, because to establish the differential clinical diagnostic among various diseases with almost the same symptoms and to make the etiological classification of all diseases of a place , it is necessary to take into account the medical organization of the place, how to the work with a microscope, to tare a balance, to make vivisection and autopsy and not only the clinical knowledge that you, learn in a hospital; as it is already handled in Germany, Brasil and France. Immediately after ward, I discuss about the malaria in Venezuela, caused by the plasmodium and the sources of error in the blood test; the staining procedures and the study used with diagnostics purposes. I refer to the classification of the Plasmodium, of the Hematozoom by Laveran and that of Ross. In summary: Plasmodium vivax, maliarae and falciparum are the parasites that cause malaria in human. I describe the evolution cycle of these parasites and the observations at the microscope; as well as the theories to explain the genesis of the malaria access and the differences and similarities between trypanosomes and spirochaetes.
