Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen responsible for a significant number of nosocomial infections, can easily acquire resistance to most drugs in clinical use. Beta-lactam antibiotics comprise the largest and most used in clinical practice, they constitute a therapeutic option in infections by non-fermenting gram-negative bacilli of glucose, such as P. aeruginosa. In the Vargas Hospital of Caracas, microbiology laboratory, according KERMIC data in the year 2013 184 P. aeruginosa isolates with decreased sensitivity rates to carbapenemes were obtained from 61% to 59% to imipenem and meropenem. In 2007 the FDA and EMEA in 2008 approved the use of a new carbapenems; doripenem, broad spectrum coverage against Gram positive, Gram negative and anaerobic. The overall objective of this research was to comparatively analyze the pattern of susceptibility doripenem with other carbapenems in Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in the microbiology laboratory of the Vargas Hospital of Caracas. It was carried through the disk diffusion method and detecting MBLs by EDTA test; similar percentages of sensitivity for the three tested carbapenems and a low percentage of positive strains were found MBLs.
