Abstract

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this present work is to know the incidence, and the experience in the treatment of primary sarcomas of the breast in our institute. METHOD: Analyze retrospective review of clinical records of patients with diagnosis of malignant mammary neoplasia, checked into the mammary pathology service of the Institute of Oncology “Dr. Miguel Perez Carreño” between December of 1998 and December of 2003, reviewing a total of 856 clinical records, and extract of them only 6 cases with primitive sarcoma of the breast they, represented a total of 0.74 %. RESULTS: The 100 % of the cases were in female patients, with lesions bigger than 5 cm. None of the cases presented clinically suspected of axillary’s node metastases. The ages of the patients with the disease varied between 13 and 60 years old, with an age-average of 36 years old. The predominant stage at the time of diagnosis was III-B (50 %). The treatment in most of the cases, consisted in simple mastectomy, radiation therapy and adjuvant chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS: Had been presented a total six cases of primitive sarcomas of the breast distribute in this way: 03 angiosarcomas, 01 neurofibrosarcoma, 01 fibrohistiocitoma and 01 primitive neuroectodermic tumor. The treatment in most of the cases was based in simple mastectomy without axilar dissection and the adjuvant treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The global survival oscillates between 10 and 60 months.
