Resumo

SUMMARY INTRODUCTION: It is a retrospective and descriptive study about the evolution of the treatments schemes used in prostate carcinoma between 1984 and 2000 at the Radiotherapy Service of the HUC. Methods: In a period of 16 years, 177 cases of prostate carcinoma were reviewed, reporting stage, treatment schemes, total dose, fraction and type of radiotherapy machine. Results: Between 1984 and 2000, 51.41 % of the patients belonged to stage D, 24.86 % to stage C, 23.16 % to stage B and 0.56 % to stage A. 42.85 % of the applied treatments were with palliative aims and, 20.51 % with curative aims, It was used Cobalto 60 in the 52.80 % of the total treatments applicated and 47.19 % in 4Mv linear accelerator (AC 4Mv). The pelvic tomography was used for the treatment planning in 100 % of the cases since 1990. The irradiation of the mamilas was used only between 1984 and 1989. The radical radiotherapy to the whole pelvis up to 4500 cGy and boost until 6600-6800 cGy was programmed in 25.08 % of the cases and, the located radical radiotherapy up to 6800-7000 GY in 20.51 %. The scheme of palliative treatment was 3000 cGy in 10 fractions in 76.47 %. Conclusion: The Radiotherapy Service of the HUC keeps treatment protocols since 16 years and has proved an excellent effectivity agree with the inclusion of the study methods and the changes of treatments as it is signed for the clinic evidence and the international literature.
