Abstract
Cirugía preservadora en el cáncer de mama localmente avanzado: INFORME PRELIMINAR. Rev. venez. oncol. [online]. 2005, vol.17, n.4, pp.196-205. ISSN 0798-0582.
INTRODUCTION: In the preservative surgery of the locally advanced breast cancer, the locoregional recurrences rate well has not been established. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate preliminary results of the preservative surgery protocol in patients with locally advanced breast cancer. METHODS: In the Service of Pathology Mammary of the Hospital Oncológico Padre Machado a prospective protocol began of preservative surgery in patients with locally advanced breast carcinoma, in January of 1997. 16 patients included were included. The surgery realized was an oncological partial mastectomy with axillary nodes dissection. We were compared the results with the obtained ones from the patients who were put under a previous preservative treatment to the application of chemotherapy, and with the patients to those who modified radical mastectomy with or without immediate reconstruction. RESULTS: Of the 16 patients with breast cancer that they received primary chemotherapy, the age average was of 44 years, the average of the tumor size was of 5.1 cm; 56.25 % were classified like stage III-A and 43.75 % stage III-B. After to the chemotherapy, the average of tumor size was of 1.41 cm. The local recurrences appeared in the 6.25 % of the cases, the distant metastasis in 12.50 %, and the actuarial survival rate at 5 years was of 83 %. CONCLUSIONS: The selected patients with locally advanced breast cancer can be treats with preservative surgery without this modifies the survival rate and the locorregionales recurrences rates.
