INTRODUCTION: There is a tendency to use systemic treatment, in those patients with breast cancer, in who the preservation of the breast is not feasible at the moment at which they present. The hormone therapy has demonstrated a high effectiveness and low toxicity, in those tumors that express hormonal receptors. METHODS: In this noncontrolled study, was including 20 postmenopausal breast cancer patients, and with degrees of estrogenic receptors superior to the 50 %. The patients were put under ecoguide biopsy by core needle, and we registered a basal tumor measurement by physical examination and ultrasound. Patients received daily treatment with anastrazole 1 mg during 4 months. RESULTS: From the 20 patients, 2 were excluded. Of the 18 remaining patients, 6 they were lost for pursuit and they did not receive surgical treatment inside of our institution, but they were valuables for treatment answer to the 4 months. 77.8 % of the patients were located in stages II-A to III-B. The index of answers were of 50 %, nevertheless, when the criterion was used ecosonographic, was of 66.7 %. All the clinical answers were partial and in the taken part patients complete pathological answer was not documented some. In the 7 of the 12 taken part patients (58.3 %) axillary nodes they were negative. CONCLUSIONS: Although one is a series very small and of a no controlled study, these results are comparable to that it is obtained with the use of primary chemotherapy.
