CARRERA, Zuleima et al. Schwannoma benigno de la mama masculina: Reporte de un caso. Rev. venez. oncol. [online]. 2006, vol.18, n.3, pp.189-191. ISSN 0798-0582.
Schwannoma (neurilemoma) is a benign neoplasia that is originated of Schwann cells. They are located with more frequency on the flexor surfaces of the extremities, neck, mediastinum and retroperitoneum. The breast is an unusual site of presentation of this tumor. We presented a benign case of schwannoma in the right breast of a 49 years old man, of three years of evolution, progressive growth, painful in the last 6 months. To the physical examination is felt tumor in right breast of 6 cm x 7 cm of diameter, located in the union of the superior quadrants, mobile, hard consistency. No lesions were observed in the skin and complex areola-nipple. Negative ipsilateral axillary nodes exam. The mammography describes, dense nodule of 5.5 cm of greater diameter, of well defined edges. The mammary sonography reports, in the superior quadrants, a great bilobed, hipoecoicos and heterogeneous image, that it measures 4.9 cm x 2.9 cm. The fineneedle aspiration cytology describes compatible findings with fibroadenoma versus Phyllodes tumor. The core biopsy reported fusocelular lesions compatible with schwannoma. A simple total mastectomy with conservation of the complex areola-nipple was made. In Literature, 17 cases of schwannoma of the breast have been only reported. A few literatures are available on this rare tumor of the masculine breast.
