OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of the expression of p-glycoprotein and p53 in human osteosarcomas and also too identified if his presence has any significative prognostic factors. These works were realized for patients of the Institute of Oncology “Dr. Miguel Pérez Carreño” city of Valencia, Carabobo state, Venezuela. METHODS: A total of 24 patients with metastasis and no metastasis osteosarcomas were included at the time of diagnostic the patients were classified by the age, sex, site of the lesion histological group, differentiation grade, and survival. We examined all the cases with immunohistochemestry to determinate the expression of p-glycoprotein and p53, and in these form classifiable them in a semicuantitative way. RESULTS: The male and female ratio was 1, 4:1. The mean age was 45, 9 years, but 58, 3 % were between 15 and 25 years old. The most common localization site was the femur, followed by head neck and the libula. The histological variable in most of the cases were osteoblastic, followed by type the flbroblastic and the classified how telangectatic. The 79 % express positive to p-glycoprotein and 87 % express positives to p53. The multivariate analysis didn’t showed associations statistics significance between the variables. CONCLUSION: We demonstrated a strong expression of p-glycoprotein and p53 in our patients but we do not find a statistic significance association between the variables. New designs are necessary to settle the really meaning of the findings.
