MARQUEZ, María Eugenia et al. Seguimiento mamográfico de pacientes categorizadas BI-RADS III Período Junio 2003 Diciembre 2006. Rev. venez. oncol. [online]. 2008, vol.20, n.2, pp.71-77. ISSN 0798-0582.
The classification BI-RADS III characterizes, in radiological image, to group of patients with mammographic lesion who have high probability of being benign but their monitoring will show us whether to drop in category or to make a biopsy due to their evolution to BI-RADS III. The objective of this work is to describe the follow up to patients with BI-RADS III, to know the patients who have involution or those who present progression with the finality of make an early diagnostic. METHODS: Between June 2003, 2 282 patients (597 BIRADS III). Only 225 patients followed their half-year and year control for three years. The data table was presented known patients with cancer, operated in one or two beasts were excluded. RESULTS: Between 40-49 years old, 48.7 % between 50 and 59.28 %. 45 patients less than 40 year olds: 77.5 %. Asymmetrical prominence was the predominant breast lesion (46.6 %), nodes (27 %) and micro calcifications (19 %). 61.3 % presented involution with 33.7 % and 4.9 % stability evolution to BI-RADS IV. Biopsy was recommended for them: Echo guided 3 and estereotaxia 4, we found 1 case of ADCD invasor and one HDCA, the positive predictive values: 0.4 % (1/225). CONCLUSION: Probably benign lesions have a tendency to involution in more than 60 %. The positive predictive value for malignity was 0.4 % it is comparable to others reported works. We demonstrated advantage in early diagnosis of breast cancer, and his influence favorably in their prognosis.
