Resumen

GARCIA AVENDANO, Pedro  y  SALAZAR LIOGGIODICE, Marinés. Edad esquelética y edad morfológica en jóvenes nadadores. An Venez Nutr [online]. 2001, vol.14, n.1, pp.09-14. ISSN 0798-0752.

The objective of this investigation is to determine the biological potential through two procedures, one being that anthropometric  and the other skeletal maturation (TW2).  36 children of both genders were measured, 19 females and 17 males whose ages ranged from 9 to 14 years of age, who practiced swimming systematically. They were evaluated by means of anthropometric measurements, to obtain the IDCm and the morphological age, as well as the x-ray of the hand to calculate bone age through TW2 method. The results indicate a strong positive lineal relationship between the bone age and the morphological age in both genders (r = 0.92) for males and r = (0.85) for females. This association was high and significant (p - value < 0.10). When carrying out the adjustment, in the males it was possible to explain 85% of the variability of the bone age approximately (r² = 0.85), while for the girls the variance percentage explained by the adjustment was slightly smaller (r² = 0.73). This concludes that both indicators have a direct relationship in the evaluation of biological maturation, recommending their use in the detection of talents and in the biomedical control of training.
