Based on the concept of human variability and the influence of environment on human physical structure, the author points out the contribution of physical anthropologists in the field of sport sciences. Accordingly, the focus and analysis of the relationship between structure and function is highlighted. Along the article, the knowledge of biological growth, maturation and sexual dimorphism, are considered as clues factors in the identification and selection of talented individuals. In addition, specific examples are provided that emphasize statistics as an essential discipline in the analysis of this specific data.
