To evaluate the scientific activity, the production and the use regarding the information derived from the Venezuelan journals on nutrition and food science indexed in the SciELO net (Scientific Electronic Online; http:// www.scielo.org/php/index.php), in the first decade of the XXIst century (2000 - 2009). A descriptive cross-sectional study of the activity and the production of scientific information published in the journals Anales Venezolanos de Nutrición and Archivos Latinoamericanos de Nutrición, in SciELO net, in the period mentioned. In the two journals, a total of 771 articles were published, 186 (24.12%) in Anales and 585 (75.88%) in Archivos. The Index of Productivity was 2.02 and the cocient original publications/year was 10.50 in Anales; and in Archivos, 2.70 y 50.10, respectively. The mean authors was 2.43 in Anales and 3.87 in Archivos. The Price Index was 31.27% in Anales and 26.68% in Archivos. In both publications, the geographic precedence of the first author was mainly Venezuelan and the language predominantly Spanish. Both publications present indicators quite similar to other publications in the area of nutrition, although the Price Index should be improved, especially in Archivos considering it is a journal indexed in the Journal Citation Report.
