The case of Venezuela is a unique case worldwide that deserve a depth analysis. A nation with a high level of natural resources and a marked economic, political and social crisis could provide evidence about the agro-industry sector. The aim of the study was to analyze indicators of vulnerability and risk to establish the National Food Security (NFS) from 1998 to 2013. The Food Sufficiency Index was estimated which yielded a mean value less than 100% placing the country in a “food insufficiency”. Similarly, was assessed the Level of Autonomy, which exceeded 40% qualifying for “Critical Dependence”. To establish the relationship between factors that make food security, a multivariate analysis such as Principal Components Analysis, Factorial Analysis and Principal Components Regression were performed. Results revealed that the variables Population, Gross food availability, Food imports, Standard bucket food and Food price index were linked to vulnerability and risk of the state of food security for the period studied.
