Abstract

This paper is focussed in the discussion of the characteristics of health journalism professional practice, its main purposes and functions, the criticism that has been subjected, as well as the major challenges facing. This article makes a special review to Venezuelan health journalism and its main shortcomings: bias toward certain health professionals (doctors) and limited access to the word to specific actors (mostly male), overemphasis on issues of conflict and epidemics and little attention to prevention or health education. In addition, it discusses best practices in general and social networks in particular.
