RIVERA DE RAMONES, Elizabeth. Life habits of students of the Samuel Robinson program of the Central University of Venezuela. An Venez Nutr [online]. 2023, vol.36, n.2, pp.67-75. Epub 20-Out-2024. ISSN 0798-0752. https://doi.org/10.54624/2023.36.2.003.
Objective:
To determine some life style and eating habits in a group of university students.
Materials and methods:
A cross-sectional-descriptive study was carried out, with a field design. The entire population of young people aspiring to enter the Central University of Venezuela through the Samuel Robinson Program was evaluated, corresponding to the cohorts - IX, X, XI, XIII, XIV, XV-, during the years 2007-2014 (265 individuals in total). To collect the data, the structured interview technique was applied as an instrument based on a pre-designed guide of open and closed questions.
Results:
This sample was characterized by having lifestyle habits with little physical activity (63.8%) and consumption of alcoholic beverages (80.8%) in both genders, a high consumption of soft drinks (>80%) and food fast (>90%). The students ate three meals a day and snacks in both the morning and afternoon (>70%). The university dining room was the space where the majority went to eat lunch, between 56% of women and 70% of men.
Conclusions:
The students of the Samuel Robinson Program (UCV), between 2007 and 2014, presented unhealthy eating and living habits, so healthy lifestyles must be strengthened and improved for the good performance of the university student, to reduce academic dropout, correct study habits and improve eating habits.
