This research analyzes the tasks related to arithmetic mean proposed in textbooks of fifth grade of Basic Education in Chile. For this purpose, a content analysis is carried out in six textbooks according to the following categories: type of task, context, cognitive demand and representation involved. The results show, in general, a predominance of the calculation task, the personal context, a low level of cognitive demand and that of the data list as support.
