The escape room is a gamification strategy for improving the mathematical motivation of primary school students. A comparative quasi-experimental design was used with 192 students, with a control and experimental group. The results show higher averages of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the first cycle. A positive correlation was observed between motivation and the assessment of active methodologies. It is concluded that the use of escape rooms in the classroom can be an effective tool for transforming mathematical learning into a more meaningful and motivating experience.
