MOROCHO, Johanna y ORTEGA, Luis Enrique. Atuntaqui: commercial dynamics according to consumer preferences, local versus imported. Espacios [online]. 2026, vol.47, n.1, pp.40-53. Epub 28-Feb-2026. ISSN 0798-1015. https://doi.org/10.48082/espacios-a26v47n01i04.
This study analyzes the textile trade dynamics in Atuntaqui (Ecuador), investigating competition between local and imported products and consumer preferences. Using a mixed approach, 200 merchants and 218 buyers were surveyed. The results show that the producer-seller model is the most prominent in the canton. While merchants report prioritizing quality, consumers seek a balance between price and quality. The conclusion is that there is a significant relationship between product origin and consumer purchasing decisions.
