Resumen

FERNANDEZ NADAL, Estela. Continental Unity and Social Democracy in Latin American XIX Century Thought. RF [online]. 2006, vol.24, n.53, pp.78-88. ISSN 0798-1171.

This article proposes a review throughout the XIX century history of Hispanic America, in order to recuperate for a reflection the most outstanding thoughts of the vast intellectual tradition of continental unity, and also the antecedents -not so prolific, but no less important- of a theory of democracy in an ample sense, popular and participative. The crossing of these two currents of thought our America constitutes in its conjunct an identity program which still questions us, and has a lot to contribute to the present and future projects of the Latin American fatherland.

Palabras clave : Latin American integration; social democracy; Latin American thought; identity; memory.
