A deterministic and dynamic model to simulate a cow-calf dual-purpose production system is described. The model was used to estimate effects on gross margin by changes in production levels generated by genetic improvement of biological traits involved. This model is composed of two major articulated drafts. The descriptive draft consists in structure characterization of a cow-calf dual-purpose production system, located at Lago de Maracaibo basin, whose biological and economical variables constitute a referential theoretical scheme. The other one draft is related to several mathematical equations which allow the analysis and simulation phases. Model validation was realized with data supply by Sistema de Registros e Información para la Ganadería de Doble Propósito, coming from Sucre municipality. The experimentation phase confirmed that, under the conditions that simulation was carried out, traits that would may integrate selection objective in dual purpose system are mature weight and milk yield. The definition of the breeding plan will be to determine the most appropriate indicators needed to generate the greatest impact on the previously mentioned traits.
