RAZZ, Rosa e CLAVERO, Tyrone. Effect of supplementation with concentrate on chemical composition of milk in dual-purpose cows grazing on panicum maximum-leucaena leucocephala. Rev. Cient. (Maracaibo) [online]. 2007, vol.17, n.1, pp.53-57. ISSN 0798-2259.
In northwest of Venezuela, in a tropical dry forest, a trial was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of supplementation with commercial concentrate on fat (F), total solids (TS), not fat solids (SNF), crude protein (CP), casein (C) and lactose (L) contents in milk of dual purpose cows grazing P. maximum and L. leucocephala. The treatments evaluated were grazing in P. maximum + 1 h/d in leucaena (T1), T1 + 1 kg concentrate/cow (T2) and T1 + 2 kg concentrate/cow (T3). The statistical design was a completely randomized with eight replications. The obtained results showed a significant effect (P<0.05) of supplementation on TS, CP and C contents, while, there was not effect (P>0.05) on SNF, F and L. The highest contents of TS (12.42%), CP (2.98%) and C (2.33%) were obtained when the cows fed on 1 kg of concentrate. The mean values of F, SNF and L were 4.12, 8.16 and 4.65%, respectively. It was concluded from this study trat the use of commercial concentrate increased chemistry components of milk in dual-purpose systems
