HERNANDEZ, Robier y PONCE, Pastor. Characterization of Lactation and Milk Components Curves of Siboney de Cuba Genotype From a Dairy Basin of Havana Province.. Rev. Cient. (Maracaibo) [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.3, pp.291-295. ISSN 0798-2259.
The objective of the present study was to establish a characterization of the lactation curve in milk production and milk composition of the Siboney of Cuba genotype in a basin of the La Habana province. A total of 310 cows were included, distributed in 10 herds, during approximately two years. Milk record was distributed during the 305 days of lactation length, that which corresponded to a weekly record and a total of 2125 production and milk composition data. In order to analyze the lactation curve, Ali and Schaeffer regression model was applied. The parameters of the curves were highly significant (adjusted R2 and bigger R at 0.90 and 0.92, respectively, P<0.001). Siboney of Cuba genotype is well adapted to tropics conditions, and shown a lactation curve with great persistency; milk components (milk fat, lactose and protein) had a uniform behaviour throughout lactation.
