RODRIGUEZ-MARQUEZ, José et al. Characterization of the Protein Profile in the Uterine Luminal Fluid During the Estrous Cycle of Dual Purpose Cows. Rev. cient. (Maracaibo) [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.2, pp.184-189. ISSN 0798-2259.

In order to know the adaptative phyisiological characteristics used by the reproductive tract of dual purpose crossbred cows, the pattern of secretion uterine proteins from the uterine fluid during the estrous cycle (EC) under different hormonal domains were studied. Sixteen crossbred cows clinically healthy were included in this research. Uterine fluid samples were taken through uterine lavages done on these 16 cows. The protein composition was determined thorough the Bradford method, followed by electrophoretic techniques and then stained with comassie. Statistical analyses included correlations and descriptive statistical methods. Approximately, 16 different protein fractions were found in samples of uterine luminal fluid placed in 11 and 15% polyacrylamide gels and compared with the mobility of molecular weight proteins (7.1 to 209 kDa). A 7 kDa protein was found only on day 0 of the EC of crossbred dual purpose cows, that is, under estrogenic control. Mean while, under progesterone (P4) control, a 20 kDa protein, suggesting that its synthesis is under the influence of P4. A 40 kDa protein was also found under P4 dominance, which is similar in molecular weight to the vascular permeability factor. A protein of 66 kDa was found in both phases of the EC, but with higher values under estrogenic dominance which could be the result of a more significant hormonal change during estrus. In conclusions, there were variations in the quantity and pattern of proteins found in the uterus luminal fluid of cows depending on the stage of the EC, being day 0 of the EC the day that showed the greatest amount of protein measured. This suggests that estrogens (E2) would have the greatest influence in the secretion of endometrial proteins.
