CORNEJO URI, Ricardo; MATAMALA VARGAS, Fernando; SILVA MELLA, Héctor  e  GARRIDO ONATE, Orlando. Ultrastructural and Morphometrical Analysis of the Laser Irradiation 10 J/cm2 Effect in Rabbit Fibroblasts. Rev. cient. (Maracaibo) [online]. 2010, vol.20, n.5, pp.480-484. ISSN 0798-2259.

Rabbit temporo-mandibular joint sample tissue for control and AsGa laser exposition were obtained. The irradiation protocol consisted on doses of 10 J/cm2 emitted at 904 nm for periods of 5 minutes on daily basic through 15 consecutive days. Later these samples were processed for Trasmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Micrographs from control and irradiated fibroblasts were obtained at 11,500 X magnification. These micrographs were submitted to morphometric measurements in order to investigate nuclear, cytoplasmic, RER and eu-heterochromatin fraction volume. Their surface and nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio was also quantified. A significant difference was found between volumes of quantified cell components from normal and irradiated fibroblasts. On this basis it is possible to conclude that irradiated fibroblasts suffer a dose dependant drastic transformation on their ultrastructure, especially on their morphology and functionality which is related to the process of collagen synthesis and secretion.
