Abstract

CALDERA, XAVIER; DIAZ, YRAIDA  and  BRITO, JOAQUÍN L. Study of the effect of a nitridation pretreatment on the hydrodesulfurization activity of a commercial ni-mo/al2o3 catalyst. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.2, pp.13-19. ISSN 0798-4065.

In this work, it was studied the effect of a nitridation pretreatment with ammonia at temperatures between 500 and 900°C, on the activity of a commercial Ni-Mo/Al2O3 catalyst. The nitrided catalyst was characterized by XPS and BET surfacearea. The presence of Mo+2 and Mo0 in the catalyst nitrided at 700°C, as detected by XPS, could be related to the possible active species. Thiophene conversion was doubled when the commercial catalyst was nitrided followed by sulfidingreduction «in situ» pretreatment.

Keywords : HDS; Commercial Catalyst; Ni-Mo/Al2O3; Nitrides; Nitridation.
