ROMEL SOLIS, CARCAÑO e MORENO, ERIC I. Porosity analisis of concrete made with limestone aggregate. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.3, pp.57-68. ISSN 0798-4065.
For most structural materials, porosity is a physical property that directly affects their main mechanical properties. Concrete is a composite material formed by two phases: the hydrated cement matrix and the stone aggregates; thus its porosity is a function of the porosity of both phases. The way the concrete pore network is interconnected determines the permeability of the material. This work reports a factorial experiment performed on lab specimens in order to identify the factors that affect the porosity of concrete made with high-absorption crushed limestone aggregates, which may present unusual characteristics, through varying the water-cement ratio, the coarse-fine aggregate ratio, and the aggregates source. It was found that the water-cement ratio and the amount of water were the main factors affecting the porosity.
