Abstract
RIVERA, JULIÁN. AADT by daily counts applied to the central region of Argentina. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.3, pp.69-79. ISSN 0798-4065.
In studies on roads and highways, it is necessary to know the volume of traffic that uses a particular road, often expressed as the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT). Thus, volumes generated by no constant and intermittent activities (study, work, vacations, etc.) must be averaged out, requiring continuous volumetric censuses. In short and medium term tasks, in those of immediate solution or where there are not sufficient resources or data, this becomes difficult. For this reason, sporadic counts are usually used that, since no historical data exists, are subjectively extrapolated by professionals who sometimes are not directly concerned with traffic problems. This produces a good deal of uncertainty, weakening the later application of parameters that are based on accurate data, thus leading to very low levels of reliability. For these reasons, this work attempts to obtain an objective methodology for the extrapolation of sporadic counts of traffic to the AADT; applicable in its results in a wide area (Provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Rios and La Pampa) of Argentina. The methodology relies on models obtained by techniques of simple and multiple regression, and is validated and discussed with other forms of calculation, obtaining acceptable results from the statistical point of view.
