Abstract

ALBANO, C et al. Study of concrete with scrap rubber of different particle size. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.1, pp.67-75. ISSN 0798-4065.

With the purpose of diminishing the environmental impact that the tires produce after their life cycle has ended, it arises as the main target of the present work, the analysis of concrete compounds modified with scrap rubber from tire treads, through destructive and nondestructive testing. The studies on compressive strength and tensile strength made to compounds with 5 wt% of scrap rubber, with different particle size (coarse ¡Ã1.19mm, fine <1.19mm, ¡ìrandom¡í) at an age of 28 days, indicate that the addition of fine and coarse particles decrease these mechanical properties. However, for the compound with 5 wt% of ¡ìrandom¡í particle size, the values of these mechanical properties do not present significant variations when comparing them with the traditional concrete. On the other hand, the speed of ultrasonic pulse of the compound with ¡ìrandom¡í rubber particles at 28 days of cure presents the same behavior as the traditional concrete. Similar conduct is observed for the dynamic modulus and the acoustic impedance.
