ALVAREZ, Rafael; LIENDO, Lorena; VARGAS, Juan y LOPEZ DE RAMOS, Aura. Study of the bubble coalescence in electrolitical systems. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.3, pp.33-39. ISSN 0798-4065.
The bubble coalescence is defined as a binary process in which two gas bubbles or two liquid drops are fused to form only one bubble or drop. In order to study this phenomenon, an experimental equipment was designed which consisted of a rectangular cell (its top open to the atmosphere) with two glass capillary tubes in its bottom. Through these tubes, compressed air was injected in the liquid. Eight different ionic solutions were used as liquid phases. Bubble behavior was recorded with a video-camera system just as the bubbles came out of the capillary tubes. Several experiments were carried out, observing in all the cases, that coalescence phenomenon were affected by the ionic solution concentration and the natures of the electrolyte up to the point of inhibiting it. It was concluded that nature of the chemical species acting in the process has a relevant effect on it
