Abstract

NAVA, Marianela; ARRIETA, Xiomara  and  FLORES, María. Theoretical models for instruction orientated Toward the construction of scientific concepts in physics. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.4, pp.98-111. ISSN 0798-4065.

Currently, the need exists in educational institutions to generate alternatives forms of teaching that lead to achieving significant learning, not only at the level of formal knowledge but also at attitudinal and procedural levels, in order to form integral professionals who are increasingly competent. In this respect, this study establishes some theoretical referents in the field of teaching physics, oriented toward learning scientific concepts and leading to a better interpretation of the environment. The research is of a documentary, descriptive nature, with theory based fundamentally on the conceptual change model and the theory of significant learning. The latter suggests the relationships between previous ideas and new information needed to construct and expand knowledge structures, aiming toward meanings closer to the formal. Likewise, it is based on learning styles and basic thought processes in order to promote the development of cognitive abilities and consequently, motivation and interest. The principal result produced from analysis is the need for a conceptual change in the construction of scientific concepts, which ought to be understood as an extension of meanings, emphasizing development of the student’s capacity to discriminate between alternative and scientific conceptions. On the other hand, it is important to include motivational and challenging elements for the student in the teaching, since it is necessary to investigate those forms that facilitate learning
