This paper presents a procedure for a systems and industrial communications modern laboratory development aimed at enhancing the teaching/learning process. A technological upgrade for an industrial pilot plant with conventional instrumentation is depicted. The upgrade allows us to provide the plant with intelligent instruments and technological tools for teaching concepts such as fieldbus, OPC, SCADA, web control/supervision, wireless communication (Bluetooth®), etc. The developed laboratory is a full teaching/training center in systems and industrial communications. It can be used by university students and for training professionals
