BRITO, Nakari; BETANCOURT, Paulino y RODRIGUEZ, Douglas. OZONATION OF AQUEOUS PHENOL SOLUTIONS USING MAGNETITE AS CATALYST IN OZONE -ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION SYSTEMS. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2010, vol.25, n.2, pp.99-109. ISSN 0798-4065.
Environmental pollution caused by the oil industry is an issue of increasing concern and interest among research groups, due to the high content of pollutants, the impact on the environment and the effect on the quality of life of the inhabitants who live close to these industries. With the aim of improving water quality, studies have been carried out onto advanced oxidation processes, using the combination of ozone with UV and solid catalyst, generating species with high oxidation potential. The application of the ozonation process at laboratory scale for aqueous solutions of phenol, using the systems O3/Magnetite and O3/UV/Magnetite, using variables such as concentration of phenol (2, 5 and 10) ppm and quantity of catalyst (0,50; 1,00 and 2,00)g, was analyzed for polluted water treatment. There were high rates of degradation of pollutants, the highest being 87,7% for O3/Magnetite 1,0g/2 ppm and 94,6% for O3/UV/Magnetite 1,0g/2 ppm. The concentration of the contaminant in solution presented a direct proportional relation to the percentage of conversion
