Abstract

On November 20th, 2008 thousand of landslides affected the urbanized southern hillsides of Caracas as a result of heavy rainfalls, which caused loss of lives (five people), families affected and economic losses (not counted). This paper describes the physical parameters and triggers that affected the southern hillslopes of the urbanized of Caracas during heavy rainfalls recorded on November 2008. Additionally a characterization of the different types of landslides recorded in slopes was made, grouping into 3 types: fast mud flows, debris slides and rock falls
