Measuring the International Roughness Index IRI through the use of MERLIN profilometer is a key factor in determining road conditions. The need of data collection automation and the calculation of IRI into field data acquisition automation set the main requirements for this project. Variations are determined using accelerometers, and the distance is measured in terms of the rotation of the wheel of MERLIN profilometer. The results were satisfactory, reducing operating costs and the processing time
