MONACO, Andrea; DIAZ, Yraida; ROSALES, Pedro  e  BRITO, Joaquín L. Preparation and characterization of aluminum and fecralloy® metallic sheets for the incorporation of active phase in monolithic catalysts. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.2, pp.106-109. ISSN 0798-4065.

Surfaces of aluminum and FeCrAlloy® metallic sheets were modified for the manufacture of cylindrical metal monoliths. The sheets were treated with appropriate methodologies to generate an oxide layer that serves as an interface between the metal surface and the materials to be incorporated. The aluminum sheets were subjected to an anodizing process using 2,6M sulfuric acid as electrolyte solution, current of 2 amp/dm2, total treatment times of 10 and 20 minutes and temperatures of 25 and 30 °C. On the other hand, FeCrAlloy® sheets were calcined at 800, 900 and 1000 °C for total treatment times of 11, 22 and 48 hours. During these processes migration of aluminum to the surfaces occurs. The materials were characterized by the techniques of X-ray diffraction, surface area (BET), scanning electron microscopy and chemical analysis by energy dispersive X-ray. The aluminum foil treated by anodizing with a current of 2 amp/dm2 and 30 °C for 20 min generated a tightly adherent alúmina layer to the material as a product of this chemical treatment, while FeCrAlloy® sheet with a treatment of 900 °C for 22 hours showed the best characteristics among all the calcined materials.
