VILLANI, Angelina; MILLAN, Arnaldo e GONZALEZ, Gema. PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND CERAMIC CHARACTERIZATION OF HYDROXYAPATITE OBTEINED BY DIFFERENT SYNTHESIS METHODS (Part I). Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.4, pp.7-16. ISSN 0798-4065.
Synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) has become an outstanding biomaterial in medicine because it is similar to the HA from vertebrates bone tissues and it reacts positively to its application as a bioimplant. In this research, three HA samples were chemical, physical and ceramics characterized, a non commercial one synthesized by aqueous precipitation method (HA1), and two commercial products, synthesized by hydrothermal method (HA2) and spray pyrolysis (HA3), respectively. Sample characterization was performed by density measurements, particle size, specific surface, chemical analysis, FTIR spectrometry, X-ray diffraction (DRX), scanning electro microscope (SEM); transmission electro microscopy (TEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed that HA1 exhibit low density (2,69 g/cm3) in comparison with theoretical value (3,16 g/cm3), nanometric particles, high specific surface area (83,0m2/g), water and adsorbed carbonate ions as well as low crystallinity. Commercial products HA2 and HA3 show densities compared with standard values (3,11 g/cm3 y 3,16 g/cm3, respectively), micrometric particles, lower specific surface, high crystallinity and porous morphology as well as rougher surface than HA1
