SOLIS-CARCANO, Rómel G; MORENO, Eric I  y  ARJONA-OTERO, Erick. Evaluation of concrete with low water/cement ratio and high absorption limestone aggregates. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.4, pp.43-50. ISSN 0798-4065.

Concrete is a composite material that depends mainly on the properties of the cement paste matrix and on the stone particles that are aggregated to the paste. It has been proved that the quality of the cement paste is improved if low water/ cement ratios are employed, and that the aggregate properties depend mainly on the type of rock and the particle shape of them. The aim of this study was to determine the compressive strength limit that can be obtained from concrete involving a specific type of crushed limestone aggregate of high absorption. Testing of concrete specimens involved six water/cement ratios and two sizes of coarse aggregate. It was concluded that it is possible to design concrete elements of f’c up to 500 kg/cm2 with the aggregate studied
