Abstract

BLARASIN, Mónica et al. Analysis of hydrological behaviour of Achiras-del Gato stream (Córdoba, Argentina) by means of new software. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.1, pp.25-36. ISSN 0798-4065.

The Achiras-Del Gato stream basin (Córdoba-Argentina) is developed in the Pampean mountains and plain. The objective of this work is to assess the behavior of the hydrological system, especially the groundwater role and a dam function, showing the use of specific software (Arken v.1.0) developed for data treatment. The dam was built in 2007 in the upper basin. Field information and data from a water level gauger (series 2002-2009) were evaluated using Arken 1.0, which improved notably data treatment. Discharge graphs, limnigrams and permanence curves (Qd) were analyzed for different periods, which made possible to characterize the hydrological behavior. It is important to highlight the presence of base flow (Qb) in the stream provided by the groundwater from unconfined aquifer and the influence of the dam in the general level hydrograph. This graph represents now an inhomogeneous series, ranging from a pre-dam high flows period to a post-dam low flows stage, due to the dam effects (lamination of high flows and increasing of low flows by gradual contribution from the dam). Comparing the pre and post-dam Qd curves, the changes observed in Q95, Q50 and the relationship Q25/Q75 were attributed to increased low flows associated with more uniform release of surface runoff by the dam in addition to the baseflow supplied permanently from the aquifer, since the current land uses does not indicate an increase in infiltration processes and in groundwater contribution in the last years.
