RAMIREZ CAMARGO, Angy Roos y BOSCH, Miguel. Seismic and petrophysical inversion using the optimization method. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.2, pp.37-54. ISSN 0798-4065.
This project applies a seismic inversion technique that links medium properties through a petrophysical model, calibrated to well logs. Our method allows estimating a joint configuration of reservoir and elastic medium parameters, such as water saturation, clay content, porosity, compressional velocity, shear velocity, bulk density. To solve the inversion problem we formulate an objective function that combines a measure of the proximity between: (1) the observed and calculated seismic data, (2) the elastic medium properties and the petrophysical expectation, and (3) the reservoir configuration fitting to prior information. The inversion is validated using synthetic data, generated from the convolution of a source wavelet with the reflectivity series generated by solving Zoeppritz equations. Furthermore the inversion was validated with real data obtained from a gas reservoir. The results include the estimation of the six properties, their correlation coefficients, calculations of the resolution and uncertainty of the estimate. We also estimated the elastic moduli and used the Eatons method to evaluate the pore pressure and the effective pressures for assessing risk situations in the planning of wells as well as their stability.
