Abstract
LARA ESTRELLA, Luis O. Technology management as integral part of the health care system (Professionalization of Clinical Engineering in Venezuela). Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.4, pp.101-115. ISSN 0798-4065.
Since the sixties, Venezuelan medical-care institutions have been suffering a noticeable and continue deterioration in performance, especially in terms of infrastructure and equipment. This is mainly due to the lack of a Health Technologies Management (HTM) policy by the Health Authorities. The main objective of this paper is to propose some guidelines for the establishment of a Technology Management Model for the Health Sector, through the implementation of Clinical Engineering that allows developing the potential of healthcare organizations through a practical and necessary mechanism. This article presents a general introduction to the principles and concepts of Technology Management and its interpretation in the context of hospital management. This proposal suggests a paradigm shift from the current hospital management and incorporates new concepts such as the Clinical Hospitality that must be taken into consideration for the proper functioning of these institutions. Finally, the article includes the concepts that emphasize the importance of training professionals through the Post-graduate course in Clinical Engineering required for the implementation of the proposals contained in this document.
