Abstract

MARINO, Lucia; GONZALEZ, Yomar; GONZALEZ, César  and  RUPCICH, Marcel. Proposal of multisegment foot model for gait analysis. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2013, vol.28, n.4, pp.143-158. ISSN 0798-4065.

A new protocol for gait analysis based on multi-segment model of foot was developed. The geometry of the foot is divided in two segments, the rearfoot and forefoot, instead of the standard one-segment model used in gait analysis systems. This model will provide additional information for clinical diagnosis within lower extremities pathologies. This protocol was implemented in the Orthopedic Children Hospital (Caracas-Venezuela) and does not affect the standard procedure, despite additional kinematic parameters to be included. The results are very promising, based on graphic representation of the kinematic parameters during gait motion.

Keywords : Foot multisegment; Foot model; Gait analysis; Rearfoot; Forefoot.
