SABBAGH, Alejandro; CHACON, Ronald y BOUZA, Alexis. Effect of feed vaporization in hydrotreating reactions. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2014, vol.29, n.2, pp.103-116. ISSN 0798-4065.
Hydrotreating reactions are one of the main refining processes. In this paper, in order to reach a greater understanding of these processes, the vaporization of the feedstock and the reaction in the gas phase are considered. These factors lead to a more complex calculation model, but much more alike to what really happens during the hydrotreating process. Results from this study show a competitive effect between the decrease in concentration and increased residence time over conversion, as the effect of vaporization. The global average error compared to experimental data showed that the system with vaporization and the reaction in both phases fits much better, with an overall error of 4.80%, while the system with vaporization and the reaction only in the liquid phase obtained an overall error of 5.22%. Starting from the comparative study among the resistances to mass transfer and the resistances of the chemical reaction, it is possible to conclude that there are no mass transfer effects in the reactor, at the operating conditions where experimental data were obtained.
