Abstract

MAFLA, Isabela  and  ESCOBAR, John Willmer. Redesign of a supply chain optimization for a group of companies which belong to a multinational holding by considering variability of the demand. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.1, pp.37-48. ISSN 0798-4065.

This paper presents the problem of redesign of a supply chain by considering variability of the demand for a large-scale company. The main problem consists to determine the decisions of contraction of some echelons of the supply chain. The problem has been formulated as a two-stage linear stochastic model. The first-stage decisions are strategic, while the second-stage decisions are tactical. The model is based on a real-world case from a multinational holding, which considers 13 companies and international customers in North America and Latin-Americans countries. The solution strategy adopted is known as Sample Average Approximation (SAA). This strategy uses an approximation scheme by sample averages for solving stochastic problems. The results show the importance and efficiency of the proposed approach as an alternative to the treatment of the variability for large-scale supply chains.
