RIERA ORTIZ, Jaime et al. Interphase studies influence on the hydrodynamic air-water system in a spouted bed using CFD. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.1, pp.147-156. ISSN 0798-4065.
The hydrodynamics of a two-phase system, air-water, is studied in a bubble column with draft tube using the commercial software ANSYS-CFX, solving momentum and mass balances coupled to the turbulence model SST (Menter, 1994) that solves the RANS approach. The model of Ishii-Zuber (1979) for the drag force, the model of Lopez de Bertodano (1991) for turbulent dispersion and the lift force using lift coefficient CL values of 0.1 and 0.5 were employed. The results were validated against the experimental data reported by Calvo et al. (1993) and Pironti et al. (1995) in a draft tube spouted bed with gas inlet velocities of 5.72, 9.44 and 16.05 cm/s. The results qualitatively describe the system, where the flow regime is turbulent and where mixing effects dominates over diffusive effects; these results show the expected behavior of the system as described in the work of Calvo et al. (1993). The results showed that the drag force is unable to model the volume fraction of air in the column. The model requires using the lift and turbulent diffusion forces to improve the prediction of holdup in the column. These results agree with those presented by Riera et al. (2012).
