DE ARMAS, María y RODRIGUEZ, Miryam. Study of learning styles of students and teachers of the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.3, pp.17-26. ISSN 0798-4065.
Learning styles of a group of students and professors of the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Central de Venezuela were determined and the relationship between these and some socio-academic variables was evaluated using a nonexperimental study design (ex post facto evaluated), transactional-descriptive. Among the consulted teacher population no significant differences were found when gender, profession and affiliation of school were compared. In general, students were more active and pragmatic than their teachers, especially those in the Ciclo Basico. In the professional schools students are more pragmatic than their teachers. However, they do not exhibit the impulsivity, curiosity and spontaneity that characterize students in the earlier stage of the career. The characterization of the population concerning their learning styles made possible to develop scales that allowed interpreting the individual results obtained through the application of CHAEA. The analysis of the style preferences not only allowed us to distinguish groups of students by school affiliation; but also showed how complex it can be for teachers to achieve the learning objectives in the subjects they teach and the need to adapt their practice to the characteristics and demands of each audience.
Palabras clave : Profiles of learning; learning styles; CHAEA; undergraduate.
