Abstract

SAUME B, María A; OMANA G, Iván D  and  PADRON M, Crelia E. Crustal model using gravimetric and magnetic data between Deltana’s paltform and Barbados acretionary prism. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.3, pp.27-38. ISSN 0798-4065.

The northeast edge of the South American Plate is characterized for being a tectonic complex area, and due to the lack of information of deep and shallow models, difficulty arises when proposing the limits of the Atlantic oceanic domain. Under the GEODINOS project, it is intended to use seismic, magnetic and gravimetric data in order to be able to propose limits and characterize the type of crust present in this area. For the analysis, density contrast and magnetic susceptibility data were used, obtaining as a result Bouger and Magnetic Anomalies maps, which allowed to find the possible limits between the different lithospheres. In addition, crustal models were generated integrating the anomalies with seismic data, which indicate the passive margin behaves as a lithosphere thinned as proposed by Lister et al. (1991), combining pure and simple shear.

Keywords : gravity data; magnetism; residualisation; thinning; lithosphere; crustal model.
