PACHECO Y, Jorge L; OLMOS M, Miguel; CHAMORRO C, Ramiro e UNFRIED S, Jimy. Modeling of thermal cycles in metal arc welding in dissimilar joints of stainless using a theoretical-experimental approximation. Rev. Fac. Ing. UCV [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.3, pp.111-118. ISSN 0798-4065.
In this paper presents a theoretical and experimental model, which was developed to determine the thermal history in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of arc welded joints. The model was based on the solution of the modified Rosenthal equation to semi-infinite plates, and it was experimentally validated using welded dissimilar joints of steels AISI 316L and AISI 430 obtained with shielded metal arc welding process (SMAW) and a filler metal E-309. A data acquisition system in real time and strategically placed thermocouples were used to measure HAZ thermal cycles during welding process. Results obtained by model showed an excellent correlation with respect to the experimentally obtained data, evidencing differences smaller than 10%. Modeling here studied could serve as a potential method to reduce experiments with the aim to determine thermal history and temperature distribution in welding, using only physical property data of the materials being joined.
